Synopsis:
Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.

Or I should say recognize him for who he was.

I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.

My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.

Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

**This book is a standalone, HEA, with mature themes and sexual situations**

Excerpt:
“Dani-girl.” His voice, that rich rumble of masculine excellence, washes over me and I shiver again before cursing under my breath. The rumble of his low laughter tells me that he definitely didn’t miss that little move.
Kill me now.
“Hey, Coh,” I say with a smile. “What brings you in? Last minute, I might add.” I pat the chair before walking around and holding the back while he sits down.
When his scent hits my nose, I almost come on the spot. Lord, he smells good. I wonder what he would smell like while his body covered mine, all sweaty from hours of good lovemaking. I run my fingers through the longer lengths on the top and feel my cheeks heat slightly, thinking about doing the same when his face is buried between my legs.
“…needed a trim.”
Shit. I missed what he said because, naturally, I was thinking about him naked. Naked and thrusting into my body. Naked and feasting between my spread thighs.
“You feeling okay? I thought Nate said you were better?”
“Uh, I’m fine. Just—is it hot in here?” I fan my face and avoid his eyes.
He’s silent, so I take that as a sign that it’s safe to bring my attention back to him.
Big mistake there. His knowing eyes are boring right into mine. The chocolate depths sparkling in a way that makes it clear he has a good idea about where my mind was going.
“Did you hear what I said, Dani-girl?”
“Of course I did, Cohen. What, did you think I was standing here daydreaming?” I joke.
“Well, yeah, that’s exactly what I think.” His eyes darken and he smirks a devilish grin. “Did you know you talk in your sleep, Dani?” he asks, and I drop my comb.
Oh, God. Shut up, shut up, shut up. This is not happening. No way.
“No, I don’t,” I childishly snap.
“Dani, you do. So, yeah, I do think you were standing there daydreaming. Want to know why?” He uses his booted foot to move his chair so that he’s facing me, and then he leans in so that his face is dangerously close to mine. Even when he’s seated, his head is almost level with my own. Curse my horizontally challenged self. “While you were zoning off into space with your fingers running through my hair, you had this smile on your lips. The same smile you had the other day when you were dreaming. About me, Dani. And don’t deny it, because you don’t moan my name if you’re dreaming about another man. Yes, Dani, you very much do talk in your sleep.” He smiles again before leaning back and looking down to his phone. “Clean up my neck please, cut the length off the top, and give me a buzz on the sides. Other than that, you’re clear to continue with your thoughts.”
I must have been standing there like an idiot because he looks up from his phone, laughs to himself, and, with one tan hand, reaches out and pushes my mouth closed.
“You’re going to catch flies that way, Dani-girl. One day, maybe you can clue me in on what those dreams are about.”
Drives me insane, the control he has over me. There isn’t a single person in the world, other than Cohen, who can turn me into a ridiculously stupid, sputtering fool. My normal confidence disappears. And clearly, he isn’t as oblivious to my feelings as I originally thought.
How in the hell am I supposed to handle this?
Wait a minute. Cohen or not, I’m not going to let him pull my strings when I know he is just doing this to make me feel uncomfortable.
So, time to call his bluff.
“Why? You planning on doing something about it?”
He looks up sharply, clearly not having expected me to actually say something in return since he was going for shock value.
“Try me,” he demands, his voice thick and even deeper than normal.
I throw my head back and reach out to run my fingers thought his hair again, just barely suppressing the shivers. Curling my fingers slightly so that I can grab a good hold, I lean in and pull his head back at the same time. With my nose just a hair away from his and our breaths mingling together, I say, “Cohen, you couldn’t handle the truth of my thoughts when it comes to you and we both know it. So how about you let me know when you’re ready for me to clue you in.” I give his hair a light tug and smile when he swallows loudly and shifts in his seat. “Ready for that trim?” I ask with a wink, and I’m rewarded with his groan.
I have no idea how I do it, but I manage to get through his cut without coming unglued. I can see Lyn trying to get my attention from across the room. Stella had to leave after she overheard my words to Cohen because her giggles were getting the best of her. Cohen has remained silent the whole time. His eyes though… They’re speaking louder than his words ever could.
They haven’t left my reflection in the mirror since I started. I can feel them every time I shift. When I stopped to go grab another comb after I dropped my fourth one, I felt his gaze follow me across the room to Stella’s station. The few times I stopped cutting to meet his eyes, the heated promise written all over his face almost did me in. I almost just said ‘fuck it’ and climbed on his lap to have a go regardless of the people watching our every move.
I finish the last buzz of my clippers around his right ear and move to brush all the stray hair off. “All done,” I say softly and unclip his cape.
He stands, shoving his phone in the back pocket of his jeans, and walks over to stand in front of me. I continue to pretend I’m busy with the cape I just removed, brushing stray hairs off here and there, when his hand comes up, his finger and thumb hitting my chin, and my face is lifted until I have no choice but to look in his eyes.
“Do not tease me, Dani. It’s not a game you want to play if you don’t intend to follow through.”
“I-I wasn’t… I wouldn’t,” I stammer.
“You did, and I have no doubt you’ll have the brilliant idea to do it again. The next time you allude to those dirty thoughts I know you have about me, don’t think for a second that I won’t drag you to the closest bed to show you just how fucking dirty they’ll get.” He leans close, his scent hitting my nostrils, and I involuntarily inhale deeply, earning me a rumbled chuckle. “What you don’t know, Dani—because contrary to what you think, you don’t know me well enough to assume what having me would really be like. But I promise you this: every little thought that you have had that causes you to moan my name while scissoring those perfect legs back and forth, praying for completion—it would be so much hotter than you could ever imagine.” He gives me a soft, sweet kiss against my temple that has fire racing from that spot all over my body until it ends in the awareness that I’m pretty sure I just came in my pants.

Author Bio:
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.

My Review:
I read this book in 2 sittings meaning nothing absolutely nothing got done until I flip to the last page. I couldn’t or wouldn’t put this book down, anyone who is going to read this book or read the following books in the Corp Security Series will understand. In Unexpected Fate we get to hear from our beloved favorite characters from Corp Security, but now we can get to hear from our characters kids Cohen Greg and Melissa’s son and Dani Izzy and Axel’s daughter story. Now we all remember Cohen as the adorable little superhero child that you seriously couldn’t help but adore and fall for, but let me say this Cohen has grown into one seriously hot alpha dirty talking male.

Dani has been in love with Cohen for a very long time since they were just young children her heart was always with him and nothing could ever persuade her to change her mind, Cohen being the super adorable superhero kid that we all grew to love and cherish has now grown to be a hero who is the special OPS. But one night changes it all it took to set the stage for these 2 who have been destined from birth to be together finally, but they have obstacles presented to them along the way. Ms. Sloan wrote this novel so fantastically that I practically ignored everything going on.

We remember Axel being one big overprotective possessive daddy alpha we actually see that come out tenfold but also there is another side of him you will fall more in love with, Cohen has learned from to be the best from his dad and the rest of the guys in Corp Security. I think he is going to give the men from Corp Security a big run for their money. I seriously cannot recommend this book enough to set its pace for many more books to come that I super excited for. Harper Sloan you did an absolutely fantastic job.

ARC Review: Not A Fairy Tale

24711544Not A Fairy Tale by Romy Sommer

Publisher: Harper Impulse, 2015
182 pages, kindle edition
Source: Netgalley
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
And the award goes to…

Not Nina Alexander that’s for sure. With her best gracious loser face firmly in place, Hollywood’s hottest starlet is hoping to end her evening of disappointment with a graceful exit stage left. Only an unexpected proposal and an awkward wardrobe malfunction mean that this is certainly going to be a night to remember… for all the wrong reasons! So what girl would resist the gorgeous Dominic Kelly coming to her rescue?! Especially when he’s whisking her out of the paparazzi’s prying eyes on the back of his motorbike – and wearing a tux to rival James Bond!

Nina soon realises that the only way to recover from such a scandal is to toughen up and snag the role of the decade in the year’s hottest YA screen adaptation. Who better to train her than her very own professional stuntman? Getting up close and personal with Dom will take Nina well out of her comfort zone – both professionally and in her closely scrutinized private life. But this A-list couple know only too well that’s it not all happy ever afters in Hollywood…

My Review:
Nina is throwing herself a full on pity party to being with because she didn’t win that silly Oscar come on boo-hoo that means everyone thinks she is rubbish. I did have a pretty hard time trying to believe that a rom-com actress earned an Oscar nomination but really what could I know about that stuff. But thankfully after her disastrous exit from the party, Nina becomes a lot more interesting and les pitful. She sure has a bunch of issues rattling around up in her head about having to put on this act all the time and not really trusting anyone to know the real her, but she is pretty gutsy and very determined and fun, and I like her for all of that. I like how she throws herself into her training with Dom and how she is always trying to get the best out of everything she does in life.

For Dom (Shortname Dom) well all idiot injury ignoring moments put aside he is very sexy and a thrill ride of a guy who knows how to appreciate all of Nina’s finer qualities about her. He also has an army of sisters always on hand to baby him when needing to, so it is no wonder he is never bothered to settle down.

This has been a fun book that put on a few unexpected adventures even on the way to a few steamy scenes and eventual hot romance. I probably would have like that to be done with a little less double-standard brooding from Dom, but at least he knows he is being stupid even as he sulks and did find the way to a potentially disagreement issue melted away was a little convenient. But small things aside this was an enjoyable read with a little hint of Hollywood’s rich and famous, heaps of guts and determination and an ending that ticked all my happy loving boxes.

But though trouble always seems to find Lara, it seems love is rather more elusive.

My Review:
So far my fav kind of movie is comedy and romance. I like other kinds of movies too but I my fall backs are always comedy and romance. They have the ability to make me feel better but they can also make me forget and make others forget about the daily stress in life for a little while. For some reason I hardly ever read anything close to romantic comedy or books with so much humor, I think I may start reading more of them due to this book. This novel is on point hilarious, this was the first book I have ever read by these authors and I might just becoming a big fan of theirs. This book impressed me with their combination of writing styles, it seems like they were playing off one another really good.

The Extraordinary Life of Lara Craft (Not Croft) was pure fun and hilarious. Lara Craft literally travels around the world to try and find her place in the world, but as you can imagine, funny situations seemed to follow her everywhere she went. I think there will be something humorous that pretty much all readers will enjoy and can possibly relate to Lara Craft in one way or another. Even though this book starts out with her kind of escaping a breakup. You so have to admire her positive spin on things. She will not let anything get her down no matter what, and that was something I sure did love about her, this is a girl I would love as a best friend. With this book I did find myself laughing my butt off and smiling with this huge grin on face while reading page after page before I even knew my face had that silly grin. This book will leave you laughing, giggling, smiling and come on guys is that really a bad thing. Sometimes we need the giggles and laughter and smiles to make our day a little bit brighter.

ARC Review: Everything Has Changed

Publisher: Mam Books LLC, 2015
313 pages, kindle edition
Source: Netgalley
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Sports
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Imagine finding the love of your life at the age of six.

Bliss Carrington did.

Bliss has known Jimmy Brason since first grade. He took on the role of the big brother Bliss never had, breaking Bliss out of her shy shell, encouraging her to have fun in high school, and pushing her to live her life to the fullest. They have always been friends—until one day, Bliss wanted more. Now seeing women everywhere swooning over Jimmy, head quarterback of the New York Cougars, is enough to drive her to madness.

Jimmy has been in love with Bliss forever, but she doesn’t know and she can never find out. In all the craziness of his fast track to fame and money, Bliss is the one person who has kept him sane. He firmly believes that history repeats itself and with his tainted past, he’s afraid that he’s fated to hurt her if he allows himself to follow his heart.

Bliss has watched Jimmy grow from a boy into a man, and it’s not fair that someone else will get to keep him when she knows in her heart that he only belongs to her.

When they tiptoe on the edge of love, can their friendship remain intact with both of them ignoring the rumblings that’s threatening to explode?

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED is a story of love, loss, and longing for the one you grew up loving.

My Review:
This story is about Bliss and Jimmy, they have been best friends since they were 6 yeaers old first day of school while catching the bus together. Now they’re madly in love with one another but no one wants to admit to it and ruin their friendship. Jimmy has an attitude like ‘if I can’t have you then I don’t want anyone else to have you’. Bliss watches his sex life play out in the media and it guts her every time she sees it and that is what the most frustrating thing about this book is.

When they are having their aha moment though it is something truly beautiful and everything starts clicking into place. For a short time anyway. Then there is an incident they have their very new relationship taking 10 or more steps backwards to being almost nonexistent all over again.

This story is full of ups and downs and takes a terrible accident for both Bliss and Jimmy to decide to fight for their relationship. There are some highly emotional moments in this story and you will want to keep reading to see how it all plays out. If you are looking for a well written interesting and emotional story, I would recommend this book for you.

Review: Empty Net (Assassins #3)

Empty Net (Assassins #3) by Toni Aleo

Publisher: Loveswept, 2013
496 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchased through Amazon
Genre: New Adult, Sports, Romance, Contemporary, Abuse, Erotica
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Audrey Parker is up against the boards. She’s stuck in a job she hates and pining for a total jerk. Meanwhile, her sister Fallon is moving out and getting married to hockey star Lucas Brooks. Where is Audrey’s Prince Charming? Nothing she does has ever seemed to be good enough for any of the men in her life. Audrey’s about to hit rock bottom . . . until she wakes up next to Tate Odder.

The thrill of moving up from the minors to the Nashville Assassins was a welcome distraction. But not even becoming the first rookie goalie to tally three shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals alleviates the pain. With the loss of his parents and sister weighing as heavily on his soul as ever, Tate Odder can’t keep pretending he’s okay. That’s when he meets smart, sexy Audrey. Her gentle warmth and quirky sense of humor make him feel whole for the first time in too long. But to stay that way forever, Tate must find a way to accept his past and learn to live for love.

My Review:
Audrey is a strong women that can't seem to let go of a creep of a boyfriend. Her struggle spoke to that part of me that hates for things to change. It seems easier to go along with bad if the alternative is horrible. That's the situation that Audrey finds herself in. Repeatedly going back to a bad relationship felt better to her than be alone. I felt for her but I also wanted to shake her especially when Tate became part of the situation. He very much wanted to be with her and he was such a better choice than....well I refuse to say his name in this review because I disliked him that much. We will refer to him as the boyfriend who should not be named.

I'm happy to name Tate though. He rocked. I loved his strength and perseverance. He's young but he's lived a lot in his 21 years. His determination is a reflection of that. I loved how he had some struggles that made him oh so real. I loved how he got lost in his music. I loved how he prepared for a hockey game. I loved how fiercely he loved Audrey. I loved the passion between them.

The story itself was complex. It could have almost been two books. I will admit that I became frustrated with Audrey at times. I wanted to kick her in the butt every time she spoke to Boyfriend Who Should Not Be Name and every time she pushed Tate away because he was too young. I wish that part of the story had moved a little faster. Once I got through it the story picked up and I enjoyed it a lot more.

Review: Hush (Senses #4)

Hush (Senses #4) by Xavier Neal

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Logan "Unbreakable" Kellar finally has everything he's always wanted in life. When a career opportunity, that could jeopardize everything, comes along, he's put back in the position where he's spent most of his life. Torn. Now, Logan has a hard hitting choice to make. Tell the only girl he's ever loved exactly what he's feeling or fall back on old habits and keep his feelings on the Hush.

My Review:
Logan is well as we know sexual but he takes that to a whole new level where Maxx is concerned, "carefully, I slide my body across his, and yank the noisemaker up right as it stops. Son of a bxxxx. Logan's hips roll under me as he says on a yawn. "Seriously? Again? We just had sex like an hour ago." Our girl Maxx likes to tease Logan so it's always fun when that happens because well it's Logan we like him to suffer sometimes, "his dxxx twitches like it heard me, so I wiggle to let it know we're on the same page.

Logan growls and gives me a good pop on the axx, which leaves a little bit of a sting." If you haven't guessed it from the other books you'll notice Logan is seriously an axx man like he's slapping Maxx's axx, here, there everywhere he can get his hands on that axx, "rolling his eyes he yanks up his shorts, pops me on the axx, and chuckles. "Make me some money, woman!" Something was totally up with Maxx this time around actually there was three or four things, I would love to list them to know what to be on the lookout for but that would a buzzkill so just remember to pay attention to this book for little clues as to what's going down, and I don't mean Logan, he's always going down on Maxx.

Review: Holding Out (Hawks Motorcycle Club #1)

Holding Out (Hawks Motorcycle Club #1) by Lila Rose

Publisher: Not available, 2013
254 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchase through Amazon
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Abuse, Erotica
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
This novel contains materials that is not suitable for individuals under the age of 18. Content includes: Strong language, violence, sexual intercourse and innuendo, abuse and other scenarios with content that readers may find offensive.

Zara Edgingway is a twenty-six-year-old secretary. She has a daughter that apparently knows-it-all and a best friend that could possibly have the mouth of Satan, but she's been with her through hell and back. Then there's the hunk'a'licious biker neighbour finally showing interest in her.
If only she isn't about to face her next obstacle in life, the one she ran from six years ago: her ex husband.

Talon Marcus is the president of the Hawks Motorcycle Club. For two years, he's had his eye on the quiet, reclusive, yet sassy, neighbour Zara. Finally, he has the chance to claim her as his woman. Just when her past catches up with her, she'll need, not only his protection, but the help from his biker brothers.
Now, if only she'd stop fighting him along the way.

My Review:
Zara has been on the run and in hiding for the last 6 years, she has a double to protect and a best friend she love more than anything but when she least expects it her sexy biker neighbor decides to barge in but not only through her door but literally into her life. Even with what she says or does he refuses to not have her as his. In the chaos of Talon trying to convince her she is his, men keep turning up and coming to her door seeking her out. But the only person she does not expect to see is her baby brother, he comes baring new that shakes her from head to toe.

With the fear of trying to give love a second chance and worrying about her ex coming to kill her and her new family. Zara is at a loss of what to do and is ready to lose her nerve – she is only just holding on by a thread – her house becomes filled to the brim with people that love and want to help and protect her. As she beings to get comfortable with Talon and his child as a part of her life, her worst nightmare is about to come true.

The best part of this book was the way everyone talked to each other. Talon was all filled with angst and manliness yet couldn't help but be softened by Zara. Zara and Darla were hilarious. All of the nicknames and just the things they said to each other had me cracking up even when it was supposed to be a serious moment. If you like a book filled with lots of testosterone and drama.

My Review:
A Breed Apart is Jekyll and Hyde, Rogue in the beginning half of this book it was awesome, I was very impressed saying wooooow!!!! This is an amazing book. I was in awe over this book, but then the author does 180 turn and I was left saying what the hell just happened. Rogue had a fantastic storyline going on with the 2 revivals, James and Nick wanting Callie and other characters were absolutely amazing is well. I loved Callie’s character in the first half of the book, she was strong, witty, smart and I loved her as the MC. Then magically she disappeared and was gone. I understand what happened to her, but for me you don’t destroy your narrator to the point of no return.

I will recommend this book to some reader only because we all have different tastes in books and this is solely just my opinion. It takes a lot for me to be disappointed in a book, and others might love it. So I will say this is your choose. I wish Rogue would have kept to what she first had going in this book. She really had an awesome story in the first half of A Breed Apart, and I think she is amazing writer, until the Hyde turn. I really wanted to love this book.

Review: Fire At Twilight (The Firefighters Of Darling Bay #1)

Fire At Twilight (The Firefighters Of Darling Bay #1) by Lila Ashe

Publisher: HGA Publishing, 2013
239 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchased through Amazon
Genre: Chick-Lit, Romance, Contemporary
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Grace is a fixer. She's good at it, too. In her acupuncture practice, she fixes the community of Darling Bay, and in her personal life, she's rescued her sister too many times to count. Her love life, though . . . Grace doesn't think she needs help, especially not from a man whose very nickname is unhealthy.

Tox Ellis is the hazmat expert at the Darling Bay Fire Department, and he knows about harmful substances. He knows what gases to keep apart to prevent explosions. Why, then, can't he seem to stay away from Grace, the woman who seems to think he needs fixing?

Is Darling Bay ready for the chemical reaction Grace and Tox generate whenever they're in the same place at the same time? And who will be standing by to put out the flames?
The Firefighters of Darling Bay series

My Review:
fire at Twilight is sweet and fun. The characters are genuine and have great depth for such a quick read. Tox is your typical sexy firefighter, however, he has a dark shadow looming over him. He seems to attract disaster despite his best efforts. Grace is a quirky woman who is genuinely good-hearted; she wants to help anyone who needs helping. Though, she quickly discovers that it’s borderline judgmental and drives away the people she holds closest to her.

The storyline is not your typical, he’s rich and she’s poor, or they’ve got these deep dark secrets that will destroy their relationship if they ever came to light. They both do carry troubled issues from their pasts however, they really only pertain to the character’s current development—why they are the way they are. The story moves through Grace and Tox’s individual and combined journeys to figuring out how to be better people. They don’t fix each other and they don’t “complete” each other. They’re figuring out how to just be, with and without each other, and I liked that. It was a refreshing and feel good story that I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a light romantic read.

Review: White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1)

White Hot Kiss (The Dark Element #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Publisher: Harlequin Teen, 2014
400 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchased through Amazon
Genre: Ypung Adult, Romance, Paranormal, New Adult, Fantasy
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

My Review:
Strong messages about friendship, love, trusting your instincts, believing in yourself and others, family unity, helping those in need, and being open-minded. Good vs. evil is not always so clear-cut or black and white. If you think someone might be doing something wrong, don't jump to conclusions without thinking things through. Profiling other people by their actions or appearances is not using good judgment.

Layla's a strong heroine. She's gutsy and doesn't back down. Even though she's part-demon, part-gargoyle, she's still a teen. Layla attends school to try to fit in and have a normal life. But when she learns some mean kids are spreading rumors about her, she wants to stop them. Her friends, Sam and Stacey, are always by her side. They are caring and funny but don't know what she really is. Layla's afraid to tell them for fear they won't like her anymore. Layla lives with a group of gargoyles known as Wardens. Gargoyles are similar to guardian angels. The head of the Wardens, Abbot, acts as a father figure toward Layla. She listens to him...most of the time. Same goes for Zayne, Abbot's son. Layla is very attracted to Zayne, who is kind, sweet, and overprotective. Roth, a demon, is also kind, loyal, protective, heroic, and sexy. He helps Layla in times of need.

Review: When You Were Here

When You Were Here by Daisy Whitney

Publisher: Little Brown, 2013
Source: Purchased through Amazon
Genre:Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Death, New Adult
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Filled with humor, raw emotion, a strong voice, and a brilliant dog named Sandy Koufax, When You Were Here explores the two most powerful forces known to man-death and love. Daisy Whitney brings her characters to life with a deft touch and resonating authenticity.

Danny's mother lost her five-year battle with cancer three weeks before his graduation-the one day that she was hanging on to see.

Now Danny is left alone, with only his memories, his dog, and his heart-breaking ex-girlfriend for company. He doesn't know how to figure out what to do with her estate, what to say for his Valedictorian speech, let alone how to live or be happy anymore.

When he gets a letter from his mom's property manager in Tokyo, where she had been going for treatment, it shows a side of his mother he never knew. So, with no other sense of direction, Danny travels to Tokyo to connect with his mother's memory and make sense of her final months, which seemed filled with more joy than Danny ever knew. There, among the cherry blossoms, temples, and crowds, and with the help of an almost-but-definitely-not Harajuku girl, he begins to see how it may not have been ancient magic or mystical treatment that kept his mother going. Perhaps, the secret of how to live lies in how she died

My Review:
This book starts out on the day of Danny’s graduation, his mother dies 2 months earlier after losing her five year battle with cancer. Graduation was the one day his mum wanted to see. Un fortunately things didn’t work out for Danny and his mum. This book was about love, pain, grief, happiness and also forgiveness.

Then Danny gets a letter from Kana talking about possessions left in Japan. Danny decides to buy a one way ticket to Japan and to go find out more about his mum, I loved how realistic the characters were, Daniel he was a very realistic male character. He felt lost and did not know how to make sense of his own life after his mother past away, I especialy loved the character Kana, she was very energetic, lively and not afraid to be herself. I absolutely loved her relationship with Daniel throughout the novel, she helped Daniel to find out the key moments about his mum life

Secrets and lies were another key aspect the book, Danny’s mum kept many secrets in Japan and it was Daniel’s job to uncover them, Daniel finds out from Kana more about his adopted sister Laini. Laini was adopted from china and left the family in her college years to live in china. Daniel hasn’t heard from her, but he did find out secrets about her while he is staying in Japan, he also finds out more about his ex-girlfriend Holland too. Holland was his mum’s best friend’s daughter when Daniel and Holland went away to college. This was the most intense part of the book. It had me ignoring my bed time to try and read farther and figure out what the hell was going to happen. I really enjoyed reading this novel and I recommend you give it a read.

Greta & The Glass Kingdom (Mylena Chronicles #2) by Chole Jacobs

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

Now Isaac wants her to rule by his side—a human queen. And the very announcement is enough to incite rebellion…

To make matters worse, defeating Agramon left Greta tainted with a dark magick. Its unclean power threatens to destroy her and everything she loves. With the Goblin King's life and the very peace of Mylena at stake, Greta must find a cure and fast.

Her only hope lies with the strange, elusive faeries in the Glass Kingdom…if she can get there before the evil within her destroys everything.

My Review:
In this novel Chloe Jacobs has created a unique world filled with lots of interesting characters, the main character Greta starts with lots of problems to overcome and they all seem to get worse by the second. Yet even despite all of that the book starts out slow and takes far too long to get the ball rolling.
Few problems with the main relationship in Greta and the Goblin King, Miss Jacobs may have relied on that book to show the connection that Greta and Isaac have, it is so obvious that Greta bless her heart is willing to do anything for Isaac and you don’t see why Greta loves Isaac so much.

But what really captured me into Greta and the Glass Kingdom was all the amazing plot twists, the book started out cliched and that got me worrying but once the story started moving all the clichés fell to the side. This continues with plot twist after plot twist that so kept throwing me loop from loop, but as the story was nearing the end I saw a clichéd ending making its way to me, but Chloe Jacobs threw one final plot amazing twist that brought the book to a very unexpected close.

Review: Deaf (Senses #2)

Deaf (Senses #2) by Xavier Neal

Publisher: Not available at the moment, 2014
121 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchased through Amazon
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
While the pleas of Logan Kellar's best friends typically fall on deaf ears, there's one voice he can't ignore so easily. His own. And when Maxx, his beautiful best friend, says something that shakes his existence, he finds himself suddenly desperate to be heard.

My Review:
The mental tirades of Maxx and Logan continue in the second book of senses, Best line that made me laugh my ass off was ‘Just because you lick it, doesn’t make it yours, Logan.’ Loved that line its not a line most women would use and she threw some sass into it. The characters were well-written.

There are flawed personality traits and sometimes they do not always do/say the right things or make the best of choices. Dean was a wonderful addition especially in the way he adds more dimension to Logan’s personality. I sometimes wished the back stories of C.J & Erin as well as Luke and Stuart would be highlighted just a little more.

The flow of the book progresses smoothly and has enough dynamics to not feel, that is not an easy thing to do when you are reading novella length books, but to be fair these books do not individually have closure like a normal book would it is more to be continued. If you are looking for closure and resolve, well I’m sorry to say guys you aren't gonna find it here.

Review: Blind (Senses #1)

Blind (Senses #1) by Xavier Neal

Publisher: Not available at the moment, 2014
144 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchased through Amazon
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Aside from being blind to the fact his best friend, Maxx Hughes, is madly in love with him, Logan 'Unbreakable' Kellar has it made. He's the best amateur fighter at TKO, has a buffet line of women desperate to be taken by him, and three friends that are his family. However, when Maxx crosses over from Logan's blind spot on the side lines to the dead center of his vision, he realizes that he can't stay blind to the fact this girl, is the girl.

My Review:
Maxx Hughes is persuaded by her best friend Erin into being a ring side girl for a match one night in the hope of having a position as the event coordinator at the TKO club. She needs this job and feels the need to contribute to the bills and groceries as she lives with Erin, Erin’s brother Luke and their other friend Logan. She has had a crush on Logan since childhood but was rejected and put in the friend zone all those years ago. She wishes he would just see her as a desirable woman not the just as the friend that was always there for him.

Logan “The Unbreakable” Kellar fights in these semi-legal events, he is taken by surprise that his yoga pants wearing nerdy friend Maxx, could transform into this sexiest siren of a ring girl that he has ever seen. He has always thought of her curvy nerdy look was on the sexy side of things, but kept her at a distance, she is calm in the storm, his anchor, his rock, but given his own upbringing, he doesn’t feel he can give her what she needs, what she most certainly deserves.

In an increasingly popular format, this story is written in the alternating first-person point of view. There are a lot of mental asides that are sometimes directed to the reader, other times are just mental ramblings or inner thoughts. Her thoughts are more snark and insecurity and his are more volatile and self-depreciating. It’s a bit odd, a bit difficult to adjust to, and sort of makes Maxx and Logan seem a bit… mentally unstable. The plot is solid, with great secondary characters that are truly enjoyable. There really wasn't any predictability, so I am pleased there, however the continual conflict was never resolved and the story does not conclude; it is left completely unfinished – which seriously bums me out.

Review: Maya & The Tough Guy (Big Girl Panties #2)

Maya & The Tough Guy by Carter Ashby

Publisher: Carter Ashby, 2015
327 pages, kindle edition
Source: Purchased though Amazon
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Maya Bradley is on her own now. With the help of her dear friends, Zoey and Addy, she’s determined to give her children the lives they deserve, away from their abusive father. But the journey is destined to be difficult, and she meets her first roadblock when she asks sexy, tattooed bar owner, Jayce Gilmore, for a job serving drinks.

Jayce has two reasons for not wanting to hire Maya. One: she deserves a more respectable job. And two: he’s been madly in love with her since he was a young boy. But when he finally realizes how desperate she is for work, he has no choice but to bring her on.

With Maya struggling to earn a living, get an education, and raise two children, Jayce finally finds himself in a position to help her. And though she isn’t interested in a relationship, Maya is showing definite signs of physical attraction. Jayce is sure he can keep his love hidden and fulfill her every fantasy. Unfortunately, he has severely underestimated the needs of his heart. As the moment of truth fast approaches, Maya must decide whether to break a tough guy's heart, or open her fragile soul to the risks that come with loving again.

My Review:
This novel along with zoey and the nice guy (first book in the series) talk about abuse – physical, mental, sexual and also neglect – I thought the author handled these subjects well, but things seemed to be resolved with little effort. Also you had the chance to view the characters from different angels and how abuse affected them.

Maya and Jayce are our main characters. Maya is fresh out of an abusive marriage, who also had an abusive home life. Maya was dealt a crap life. But she had the best friends anyone could ask for, they gave her the love and support she needed. Maya is getting back on her feet, she was a difficult character for me at times and other times I loved her. While I understood her background, her current behavior would piss me off at times, especially in regards to her judgmental feelings towards Jayce. Her insensitivity made her less likeable, though I did empathized with her and her circumstances. Jayce, who has been in love with Maya since forever, was endearing and trying hard to be a sensitive friend for Maya, really felt for the guy. But Jayce who also came from an abusive childhood tends to shield his emotions and has some difficulty communicating. So together they made for an interesting read. Would be such a lovely couple one minute and then the next you’re yelling and screaming no!!! Cause their fears and feelings would shake things up.

But all in all this was such an enjoyable read with characters that are both frustrating and fascinating. There were things that I didn’t like during the read but it was still enjoyable. I look forward to reading Addy’s story.

ARC Review: Her Big Sky Cowboy (The Wildflower Ranch #3)

Her Big Sky Cowboy (The Wildflower Ranch #3) by Alissa Callen

Publisher:b Tule Publishing, 2015
127 pages, kindle edition
Source: Netgalley
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Western
Links: Goodreads | Amazon

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Sometimes Mr. Wrong is Mr. Right.

Speech therapist, Trinity Redfern, knows her perfect match is out there somewhere. And when she finds him he’ll be articulate, well-dressed and most of all he will let her call the shots.

Reclusive rancher, Zane Nash, has heeded life’s lessons. Never trust anyone, especially a woman. But when he becomes an instant father to five-year-old Finn, he must trust the sassy speech therapist who takes over his ranch for the summer. Trinity is Finn’s last hope to learn to speak again.

But when the summer ends has time run out not only for Finn but also for Zane? Can the reserved cowboy find the words to make strong-willed Trinity stay … forever.

My Review:
Haha little Finn does his best to steal the show in this story. He was so amazing and adorable, and they both Zane and trinity care for him was wonderful. Zane and Trinity have a sizzling connection and a pull between them, they fight it for what seems like a long time but they both have their own reasons. Zane is weary to trust again after the cards of life he has been dealt to him, his disappointments both with Finn’s mum (we New Zealanders and Australians say mum) and his own parents have taught him not to trust anyone. Trinity cannot believe that the stubborn, determined cowboy could be her “one”. It just does not fit for what she had in her mind.

The summer in Montana is at its best lots of things are happening events from the farm are pulled into the story, fitted in well with its development of their relationship. Another part of this story is Finn he is the big part, his adjustment to school coming in the fall (also known as autumn here in Australia and New Zealand), and the love and care Zane and Trinity has for him. But also some of the drama and trouble from both of their childhoods are handled in a very positive manner. The ending drama brought a lot of tears to my eyes because of Finn. But pretty much overall this story was really great, even though it was a fast, light read I enjoyed this book very much. Looking forward to hear more from this author.
